Assessment the Contributing Factors to Head Injury and its Health Outcomes in Baghdad Teaching Hospital

Background: Every year, approximately 1.25 million people are killed as a result of traffic accidents. Between 20 million and 50 million other people are exposed to non-fatal injuries and many become disabled. The study aims to assess the contributing factors of traumatic head injuries and its health outcomes in Baghdad city. Methodology: It was conducted descriptive study to determine the contributing factors of traumatic head injuries and its health outcomes. A total of 60patients who exposed to traumatic head injuries they were followed within one month, to conducted level of conscious (GCS) and Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS). A purposive sample, the data were collected and analyzed through application of the descriptive statistical analysis approach that includes "frequencies & percentages". findings depicts that (33.3%) were aged 20-29 years, (88.3% and 68.3%) male and single respectively, primary schools graduated with free work. The RTA (Automobile) were the most common factors contributed to head injuries, which constituted (68.3%) out total number, most traumatic head injuries patients were die and they constituted (40%) out total number of 60 patients. Road Traffic Accidents more than others are a factor that causes head injury amongst young adults and which leads to death. Ministry of health need to address those serious problem to develop healthcare professionals who have specific training and experience in brain injury.
